Birthday Cake – Mermaid Theme

I had so much fun making this Mermaid Theme cake!   The cake is a Vanilla Chiffon cake with Oreo buttercream filling.    The cake is a 2-tiered cake, 6-inch round and 9-inch round.

Let me show you how I started.   Once I have a design, then I start with decoration items.  These items are made at least 1 to 3 weeks before the cake is due so that thse items can be solid when it’s time for assembly.     The requestor sent a photo of cake she wanted, it had this cool “5” with mermaid tail which I fell in love with that one.   So I had to make one too.   She also liked a silhouette of mermaid from another cake photo, so I incorporated that too.    I really wanted to have a cake topper, so that is how a Giant Clam Shell was created.   Since I didn’t have any mold for the big shell, I just cut and shaped in the way I wanted.

On the day before, I started to bake cakes and stack up cakes with my Swiss Meringue Buttercream.   Here is a naked iced 9-inch cake.

After both cakes have been assembled, then I worked on the  fun decorations. Well I’m not going into details to bore you.
